The Wakefield Grannies

The Wakefield Grannies support AIDS Orphans and their Grandmothers in Alexandra Township, South Africa, by providing direct financial assistance to the East Bank Clinic, and by corresponding with the individual women who attend the clinic’s program.

Since its formation in 2004, The Wakefield Grannies have produced fundraising events like play readings, quilt sales and benefit concerts.

These events have succeeded in raising a new awareness and concern in our own community.

While the activities of The Wakefield Grannies help AIDS Orphans and their Grannies in South Africa, the personal relationships enrich their lives and allow them to play a part in alleviating the devastation of the worst medical disaster in history.

Financial contributions from The Wakefield Grannies have enabled the purchase of winter blankets, pharmaceutical products and food for over 60 granny-lead families in Alexandra as well as funding programs offering relief to grannies, youth and AIDS affected children attending the East Bank Clinic.

While being an entirely independent organization, The Wakefield Grannies also support the work of the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) by making
occasional financial contributions to the Foundation.
Our mission is to maintain personal contact and financially assist women in South Africa who are caring for AIDS-orphaned grandchildren.
Notre mission est de maintenir un contact personnel et financier en vue d'aider les femmes en Afrique du sud qui veillent aux soins des petits-enfants orphelins à cause du SIDA.
